How to deal with the newly bought soil for growing orchids

1. Can the newly purchased culture soil be used directly to grow orchids?

Generally speaking, if it is packaged professional culture soil, you can use it directly to grow orchids after you buy it. Because this kind of soil is sterilized before being packaged and sold, it does not contain any pathogens. However, if you buy bulk culture soil, it is best to disinfect it before use. This can prevent the existing pathogens in the soil from infecting the orchid and causing it to become sick.

2. How to deal with the newly bought soil for growing orchids

1. Sterilization and disinfection: In order to prevent the bacteria in the culture soil from infecting the orchids and making them sick, the new soil should be sterilized and disinfected before using it. The most commonly used method of disinfection is sun exposure. Spread out the new orchid soil in a place with direct sunlight, expose it to the sun for a day, and then you can use it. If it is inconvenient, you can also put the orchid soil in an iron pan, heat it and stir-fry it. This can also eliminate the pathogens and pests.

2. Prepare the potting soil: If you buy professional orchid growing soil, you can put it directly into the pot and use it. But if you buy bulk soil, you still need to mix it. The preparation method should be determined according to the variety of orchids being grown. If you want to grow orchids in the ground, you can use garden soil, peat soil, leaf mold, river sand and other soils. If you want to grow epiphytic orchids, you can use rotten bark, pine needles, gravel, seaweed and other materials to prepare them.
