Eggplant seedling raising time and method

Eggplant seedling raising time and method

Spring is here and everything is reviving. Many parts of our country have entered the busy season of spring ploughing and farming, and now is the critical period for seedling cultivation of many vegetable varieties in March and April. Let’s learn about the time and method of eggplant seedling cultivation.

1. Eggplant seedling raising time

The cultivation time of eggplant seedlings is usually determined by local climatic conditions and temperature. Most farmers tend to start cultivating eggplant seedlings between March and April in spring. Considering that the growth cycle of eggplant seedlings is about 80 to 90 days, the temperature and humidity must be carefully controlled during the seedling cultivation period to ensure the healthy growth of the eggplant seedlings. Such management is crucial for a good eggplant harvest in the later stage.

2. Eggplant seedling cultivation method

1. Seed soaking and germination

Because the seed coat of eggplant seeds is thick, soaking and germination treatments are necessary. First, soak the seeds in warm water for 2 hours, then take them out and wrap them in a moist cloth and place them in a stable temperature environment to promote germination. About a day later, when the seeds begin to show white sprouts, they can be disinfected with potassium permanganate solution and prepared for sowing.

2. Preparation before sowing

Before sowing, make sure the soil in the seedbed is fully moistened and water the seedbed thoroughly with warm water. Next, spread the eggplant seeds evenly on the seedbed and cover it with a layer of plastic film to maintain the temperature and humidity, which will help the eggplant seedlings grow quickly.

3. Irrigation and fertilization

In irrigation management, it is necessary to control the amount of water and avoid excessive watering. When the seedlings show slight wilting, choose a sunny morning to water them appropriately, following the principle of "alternating dry and wet". For eggplant seedlings that are more fragile in the early stages of growth, it is necessary to apply nitrogen fertilizer in a timely manner. At the same time, amino acid aqueous solution and urea can be combined for foliar spraying once a week to promote the healthy growth of the seedlings.

In general, it is now a critical period for eggplant seedling cultivation in many areas. If you are planning to cultivate your own seedlings, you can refer to the above content.
