Date tree seedling raising method and time

Jujube trees are common fruit trees. The ripe jujubes on the trees are rich in nutrients and are an excellent tonic for autumn and winter. Jujube trees are planted in many areas. Below I will introduce to you the method and time of raising date tree seedlings.

Date tree seedling raising time

Different seedling raising methods for jujube trees require different seedling raising times. The best time to raise jujube tree seeds is between February and May. The temperature during this period is suitable, which can promote the seeds to germinate as soon as possible and the germination rate will be greatly improved. Jujube tree cutting seedling raising is carried out from mid-May to mid-August every year, during the growth season of new shoots of jujube trees. The best time to grow jujube trees by root cutting is after the soil thaws in early spring (March to April).

Date tree seedling raising method

Common methods for raising seedlings of jujube trees include sowing , grafting, division and cutting.

1. Sowing and seedling raising

Collect the ripe fruits from high-quality and high-yield jujube trees, germinate them at a constant temperature of about 24 degrees away from light, and use high-quality, loose, fertile sandy loam or semi-sandy loam as the seedbed. Sow the seeds at a spacing of 20 cm between plants, 3-4 seeds in each hole, cover with sieved fine moist soil, and build a small soil mound 12-15 cm wide and 10 cm high, cover with plastic film, remove the film and level the soil mound after 5 days. Seedlings will usually emerge after a week.

2. Grafting seedlings

Use root suckers from the jujube garden as rootstocks . In winter and spring, transplant them at a spacing of 20cm×50cm between rows and plants. Strengthen management and cultivate strong seedlings. You can also use sowing and seedling cultivation to cultivate rootstocks. When the diameter of the rootstock seedling reaches more than 0.6 cm, it can be grafted. When collecting scion, you should choose strong plants of excellent varieties suitable for local development and free of diseases and insect pests. Grafting is generally done by bud grafting, cleft grafting and cut grafting. The appropriate grafting method can be selected according to the actual situation. After grafting, it is necessary to remove tillers and untie the plants in time, strengthen fertilizer and water management, carry out tillage, weeding, disease and insect control, and promote the growth of grafted seedlings.

3. Plant division and seedling raising

Root suckers can be used to cultivate jujube seedlings. There are two methods: one is natural germination. Mature jujube trees sprout root suckers every year, which can reach a height of about 1m in the same year and can be transplanted in autumn. The second is to cut off the roots and raise seedlings. After the soil thaws in early spring, select jujube trees with excellent varieties, strong tree vigor, and no diseases and insect pests as mother trees. Dig a circular trench 30 cm deep and wide around the crown of the tree, cutting off the roots while digging. After digging the trench, mix soil and fertilizer into the trench, water it and fill it with soil after it has seeped in. After mid-May, pull out several tillers, leave 1 to 2 strong seedlings, and cut off the rest. They can be transplanted after 2 years.

4. Cutting seedlings

The site selection for the cutting seedling bed should be in a place that is sheltered from the wind, has convenient drainage and irrigation, is flat and has sufficient sunlight. The bed surface should be covered with disinfected cutting medium. Cuttings selection and processing: Cuttings are generally selected from 1 to 3 year old semi-lignified branches with strong division ability. Secondary branches, jujube heads and jujube hangings can all be used as jujube cuttings. When cuttings, the cuttings are treated with a certain concentration of growth regulators that promote rooting and germination, such as rooting powder, indoleacetic acid, etc. After cuttings, compact the matrix around the cuttings, control the humidity above 85%, the temperature around 30 ℃, and pay attention to the prevention and control of diseases and pests. After the seedlings survive and have been hardened for a period of time, you can choose to transplant them on a cloudy day or in the evening, and then cultivate strong jujube seedlings.
