How to propagate tulips, the main propagation methods of tulips

How to propagate tulips, the main propagation methods of tulips

1. Seed propagation

1. Bulb storage: Tulips are bulbous plants. After flowering, the above-ground parts will gradually wither. The bulbs need to be removed, dried, and stored in a low-temperature environment.

2. Autumn sowing: Tulip bulbs are generally sown in autumn, mostly in September or October. Sowing too early or too late is not conducive to plant growth and will affect rooting.

3. Prepare the soil: In order to allow the bulbs to grow better, you need to prepare loose and fertile soil. Generally, garden soil or leaf mold will do. You can add an appropriate amount of sand to increase its drainage.

4. Planting: dig a hole on the soil surface and bury the bulb in it. The depth of burial depends on its size. Small ones can be buried 15 cm and large ones can be buried 20 cm.

2. Bulb propagation

1. Time for dividing bulbs: Tulip bulb division is usually carried out in June. At this time, the plant has finished flowering, the above-ground parts are gradually withering, and the bulbs have entered a dormant state, which is suitable for separating side bulbs.

2. Bulb separation: Take the tulip bulb out of the soil and separate the small bulbs on both sides. Be careful not to damage the mother bulb or the daughter bulbs, otherwise it will affect their development.

3. Planting in pots: bury the separated balls in the soil. If the pot is big enough, you can bury multiple balls, but keep a certain distance. After burying, water it and take measures to prevent cold.
