Cutting technology of jasmine

Forsythia is not very demanding on soil and has strong adaptability. Its propagation methods include layering, division and cuttings. Among them, the survival rate of cuttings is very high, which is suitable for many novice friends. Below, I will introduce the cutting technique of Forsythia, let’s take a look.

1. Soil culture cutting method

1. Cutting time

Forsythia is not afraid of severe cold and is also drought-resistant. Soil cuttings can be carried out in spring, summer and autumn. The cuttings of Forsythia can take root quickly in spring, and the suitable temperature for cuttings to survive is 20 to 25℃. Therefore, spring is the most suitable season for Forsythia cuttings, and it can be done in late March. In summer and autumn, cuttings should be taken from July to September.

2. Selection and processing of cuttings

Usually 12 to 15 cm long semi-lignified branches of the current year are cut as cuttings, and the cuttings need to be thick and healthy. The length of the cuttings is also determined based on the type of plant you want to cultivate in the future. If you want to use it as a potted plant , the cuttings can be slightly longer. It is necessary to trim off the top of the branch of the cutting, retain a small number of leaves on the top, and cut off all leaves below one-third of the cutting.

3. Cutting process

The depth of the cuttings into the cultivation medium should reach 1/3 to 1/2 the length of the cuttings, and then flatten the soil surface.

4. Maintenance after cutting

After cuttings, water them thoroughly once and provide shade protection. Then keep the soil moist. Cover them with plastic film for 10 to 15 days to keep them warm and moist. Also, cover them frequently to keep air circulating. They will take root and survive in about 30 days.

2. Hydroponic cutting method

1. Cutting time

The cultivation of Forsythia by cuttings using water can be carried out in every season, and the temperature should be between 15 and 20℃.

2. Cutting process

The cuttings should be 8 to 12 cm long, with about 2 to 4 nodes. They need to be strong branches grown in the same year, and some of the leaves at the lower end can be removed appropriately. Usually, cuttings will take root 35 to 40 days after cuttings. When the fibrous roots grown in hydroponics reach 3 to 5 cm, they can be transplanted for soil cultivation.

The above is an introduction to the cutting technique of Forsythia. Adventitious roots are easily produced under the nodes of Forsythia branches, so the survival rate of Forsythia cuttings is very high. Cuttings can be made with river sand mixed with humus soil, pure sand or fine sand, and ordinary flower soil can also be used if conditions do not permit.
