How to make osmanthus survive by cuttings, and what are the external conditions that affect the survival of cuttings

1. Cutting method

1. Processing of cuttings: Select cuttings that are free of diseases and pests and should be thick. Such cuttings have strong germination ability and the survival rate will naturally be higher. You also need to remove the lower leaves and only leave the two or three leaves on the top. After treatment, soak it in rooting water for about 10 minutes to speed up the rooting process.

2. Prepare the substrate: The substrate for cuttings must be loose, breathable and water-permeable. It can be a mixture of garden soil, river sand and leaf mold. It must be exposed to sunlight for disinfection before use to avoid the presence of bacteria that will affect root growth.

3. Insert the cuttings into the soil: After the soil is prepared, you can insert the cuttings into the soil. Be careful not to insert the cuttings too deep into the soil; about 1/3 of the way is enough. After planting, be careful to compact the soil, water it to keep it moist, and place it in a well-ventilated place. It will take about a month for the plants to take root.

2. External conditions affecting survival

There are two main external conditions that affect survival. First, the temperature. The temperature that is conducive to its rooting is between 20-25 degrees. If the temperature is not suitable, too high or too low will affect rooting and reduce the survival rate. The second is humidity. The humidity of the soil should be between 50%-60%. Water frequently, but not excessively. The plant should not be kept in an overly humid environment for a long time, otherwise it will affect rooting and the bottom of the cuttings will easily rot. If the temperature is too low, it is recommended to cover it with plastic film first. This will not only keep warm but also keep moisture, which is beneficial for rooting.
