How to propagate osmanthus by cuttings? Can thick branches be used for cuttings?

1. Choose the cuttings

When taking cuttings, you should choose semi-woody branches. Although thick branches can produce buds, they will not take roots, so don't use them. When cutting, choose healthy ones without diseases or insect pests, and the length should be about 10-15 cm. After cutting, you need to process it again. Cut off the lower leaves and then soak them in rooting water for 10 minutes. This can speed up the rooting process.

2. Prepare the soil

Cuttings also have requirements for the substrate, which must be loose, breathable and water-permeable. It is recommended to prepare it yourself, mix river sand, garden soil and leaf mold, and then expose it to the sun for disinfection before use, which can meet the needs. Choose a new and good quality flower pot, preferably a ceramic or clay pot.

3. Potting and cutting

When everything is ready, you can insert the seeds into the soil. When inserting cuttings, be careful not to insert them too deep into the soil. About 1/3 of the cuttings will be enough. Inserting them too deep will affect their breathing and will be detrimental to rooting. After planting, carefully compact the soil around it to ensure that it does not tilt.

4. Post-management

Pay attention to the management methods after planting. Only proper management will take root as scheduled. Water as soon as possible to keep the soil moist, but without any stagnant water. If the temperature is too low, cover it with plastic film and keep the temperature between 20-25 degrees. Such an environment is more conducive to rooting. In addition, be careful not to rush into sun exposure. Place it in a cool and ventilated place first. It will take about a month for roots to grow.
