How to grow yam at home

How to grow yam at home

1. Choose a good flower pot

If you want to grow yam at home, you must choose a good container. You can choose a box to plant it, or you can prepare a flowerpot. It is required to have a certain height and a certain capacity, preferably about 80 cm. The loam filled inside must be loose and soft, and have good drainage. It is best to use sandy soil.

2. Prepare seedlings

You can directly buy larger yams, and then cut them into sections, which can be used as seedlings. Apply wood ash on both ends to prevent them from rotting.

3. Start Planting

The best time to plant is in spring, preferably March or April, as this is the most favorable time for growth. Just bury the yam in the soil, not too deep, pour enough water into it, and wait for it to take root and sprout.

4. Maintenance and management

1. Water and fertilizer: You don’t need to water the plant too much, just keep the soil in the pot generally dry. Fertilizers should be supplemented well and sufficient nutrients should be applied during the growth process.

2. Pests and diseases: Because it is planted on the balcony at home, the ventilation conditions are poor and it may be infected with pests and diseases. It is necessary to spray pesticides in time for treatment.
