Treatment of Begonia after flowering

Treatment of Begonia after flowering

1. Remove the remaining flowers

When it finishes flowering, the first thing to do is to remove the remaining flowers. Do not let them remain on the branches. If they remain on the branches, they will cause rot and affect the overall ornamental value. Moreover, a lot of nutrients have been consumed during the flowering period. If they are not cut off, they will continue to consume nutrients, affecting the supply in other aspects and being detrimental to the growth in the coming year. The flower branches should also be pruned appropriately to reduce nutrient consumption as much as possible, and be careful to apply wood ash to the wounds for disinfection and sterilization.

2. Supplement nutrients

Flowering consumes a lot of nutrients, so after flowering, it is necessary to replenish nutrients and add compound fertilizers to ensure a balance of multiple elements. This is to ensure growth in the next year. If no fertilizer is applied at this time, it will be difficult to support nutrients when the flowers bloom next year.

3. Reduce watering

After flowering, the demand for water is significantly reduced. At this time, you need to control watering and reduce the amount of water supplemented. If you still water at the previous frequency, the leaves will fall off.

4. Increase Lighting

The need for additional light supplementation should be increased to ensure a sufficient length of sunshine, so that the plants can synthesize nutrients, promote the differentiation and growth of flower buds, and ensure growth in the coming year.
