How to grow melon seedlings

How to grow melon seedlings

1. Pot soil preparation

If you want to ensure the normal growth of melon seeds, the first step is to prepare soil suitable for germination, that is, nutrient soil. Mix the decomposed animal manure and ash in a ratio of about 2:3. After mixing, stir evenly and then use a sieve to remove larger particles. And use carbendazim to disinfect the nutrient soil to prevent bacteria from infecting the seeds.

2. Germination Treatment

In order to ensure the germination rate of melon seeds, germination treatment is required. Expose the seeds to the sun for 1-2 days, then soak them in 50°C hot water for 15-20 minutes, stirring constantly. After taking it out, disinfect it with diluted potassium permanganate solution to avoid bacterial residue. After disinfection, wash off the drugs on the seeds, wrap them in wet cloth, and place them in an environment of 28-30℃ for germination.

3. Sowing

Wait until the seeds germinate before sowing. Water the soil in the pot before sowing to ensure that the substrate is moist. Place the seeds on the surface of the potting soil and cover them with a 1.5 cm layer of soil. And cover it with ground film to keep it warm and moist. The seedlings will grow in about 5 days, after which the ground film should be lifted to allow the seedlings to receive a certain amount of light.

4. Seedling cultivation and maintenance

Temperature control is particularly important in the early stages of seedling growth. The temperature remains between 20-25℃ during the day and around 8-10℃ at night. To prevent it from freezing at night, you can cover it with plastic film and uncover it during the day. You can also keep the temperature higher to speed up germination, but it is not advisable to water at this time.
