How do plum blossoms survive the winter?

How do plum blossoms survive the winter?

1. Appropriate amount of fertilizer

Because winter happens to be the bud formation period of plum blossoms, it needs more nutrients to nurture the buds and thus bloom. So at this time, some phosphorus fertilizer should be applied every 7-10 days to increase the number of flower buds. It is best to choose liquid fertilizer for flowers, which can allow it to absorb nutrients faster and is more beneficial for it to bloom.

2. Control watering

After winter, you should reduce the frequency of watering. Because if you water it too much at this time, it will not only easily cause it to freeze or get waterlogged, but may also cause its flower buds to fall prematurely. So at this time, it is best to water once every 10-15 days. If the soil is not dry, do not water again.

3. Pruning

It can be pruned in winter and during the budding period. In winter, you can cut off the old and dry branches on the plant. This can reduce the consumption of nutrients, which is not only beneficial for wintering but also for bud formation. During the budding stage, you can cut off some of the flower buds growing on the plant to allow the remaining flower buds to open better.
