Notes on changing soil for azalea

Notes on changing soil for azalea

1. Pot soil preparation

The soil requirements of azalea are the same as the previous potting soil. In the past, loose soil was used for cultivation, and loose soil should also be used as new soil. Adding bone meal or well-rotted animal manure to the pot as base fertilizer will help its growth.

2. Remove the basin

You can stop watering for a while before removing the plant from the pot. After the soil in the pot is separated from the pot wall, carefully remove the azalea from the pot. After taking it out, remove one-third of the old soil, check its roots, and cut off old and bad roots in time.

3. Repotting

Choose a pot that is the right size. Place a few broken tiles at the bottom of the pot and add a layer of coarse sand to increase its drainage. Then add a little culture soil, plant the azalea in the pot, fill it with soil and compact it. After watering it thoroughly, place it in semi-shaded place for maintenance.

4. Seedling maintenance

After repotting, the seedlings will go through a half-month acclimatization period. Don't water too much during this period, wait until the soil turns white before watering. At the same time, you cannot apply fertilizer to avoid burning the roots. You can also prune the plants appropriately to reduce the waste of nutrients on the branches and leaves.
