How to judge the molting of Lithops

How to judge the molting of Lithops

1. Leaves become soft and shrink

When the plant is about to shed its skin, the leaves will change. The old leaves will begin to become soft and lose their previous growth vitality. In the later stages, they will gradually shrink. This indicates that the old leaves are about to fall off and begin to shed their skin.

2. Is there texture?

If water is applied normally, horizontal lines will appear on the leaves, as well as vertical lines that are about to shed, that is, a crack will appear in the middle, which proves that life activities have begun and molting is about to occur.

3. Whether new leaves grow

You can also observe whether new leaves are growing, so you can determine whether it is molting. Look at the middle and lower part of the side to see if there are new leaves protruding. You can also gently pinch both sides with your hands. If you feel something hard, it means it is about to molt. If it is difficult to observe with the naked eye, you can turn off the lights at night and shine a flashlight vertically downward from the top. If you see black, it means new leaves are growing and the old leaves are about to shed.

IV. Precautions

Lithops usually begin to shed their skin in late autumn, but this cannot be determined through these methods. If too much water is given, the old leaves will contain more water, making it difficult to determine.
