How to grow delphinium

How to grow delphinium

1. Watering

It has a certain degree of drought resistance, but is not tolerant to waterlogging. Therefore, don’t water if the soil is not dry, and water thoroughly if you do water. The soil surface is preferably in a semi-dry and semi-wet state. Before flowering every year, you can add more water and increase nutrients, which is beneficial to flowering, but be careful not to water at noon, otherwise the plant will wilt.

2. Lighting

It likes light, but cannot tolerate strong light. During maintenance, it is best to build a sunshade nearby to avoid strong sunlight, otherwise the leaves will easily turn yellow and wilt, affecting growth.

3. Fertilization

Delphinium likes fertilizer very much. In the early stage of maintenance, you should add compound fertilizer and organic fertilizer to the potting soil to promote growth and development. During the growing season, nitrogen fertilizer should be applied to make the leaves greener. Before flowering, you should increase the amount of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers appropriately, so that the flowers will bloom more beautifully and the flowering period can be extended. In addition, be careful not to fertilize in winter.

4. Temperature

It likes to grow in a cool environment, and the temperature should be controlled between 15 and 25 degrees. Therefore, pay attention to cooling in summer to avoid affecting growth.

5. Notes

During maintenance and management, the pot should be changed every two or three years, otherwise it will affect the growth and cause the growth rate to slow down. Also, watch out for diseases, especially soft rhizome rot and black spot, and treat them when you find them.
