How to prune asparagus fern

How to prune asparagus fern

1. Remove the top

Because of the apical effect, the plant will continue to grow upward, and there will be relatively fewer side branches and buds. Therefore, when you observe that the new terminal buds grow to 2-3 cm, they need to be removed in time. This can promote the position of the stem, separate branches and leaves, make the plant shape continue to be fuller, and the growth state becomes relatively good.

2. Short Cut

Branches that exceed a certain length need to be shortened. Don't feel reluctant to do so; they need to be pruned frequently. When the main branch is pruned short, the latent buds in this area can be forced to germinate. The thicker the branch, the higher the chance that the latent buds will germinate. If left alone, the branches can grow up to 6 meters. It will also bloom flowers and bear fruit, which will seriously affect its ornamental value, so it must be controlled at an appropriate length.

3. Daily pruning

In addition to the above two main aspects of pruning, in daily maintenance, if you observe yellowing branches, you need to cut them off from the base. This can reduce nutrient consumption and promote the growth of new buds.
