How to plant peach seeds

Seed treatment

If you want to grow a peach tree well, you must first get its seeds.

Many flower lovers may think that the peach pits in peach fruits are the seeds of peach blossoms. In fact, this idea is not entirely correct. The outer shell of the walnut is very hard and belongs to the endocarp, in which the peach seeds are completely contained.

Before planting, we need to process the peach pits to break the seed dormancy. Specifically, the peach pits should be buried in wet sand at 1-10℃ to overwinter, and can be planted in the spring of the following year.

When planting, we need to first remove the hard shell of the peach pit and take out the kernel. The specific method is to use a blunt object to gently knock out the peach pit shell and move it to the crack, then insert a knife into the crack, pry open the shell with force, and then take out the kernel.

Soak the kernel in cold water for 3 to 4 days, and make sure to change the water every day. After that, expose the kernels to the sun for 2 to 3 hours every day, and pile them under a heat-insulating film. When they start to sprout, they can be used for planting.

Selection of planting environment

In order to provide good growing conditions for the planted peach blossoms, we need to find an environment with good light and soil for planting.

It likes light, so it cannot be planted in a shady place. It should be ensured that it can get enough sunlight.

It is afraid of waterlogging. Generally speaking, the plant may die if it is waterlogged for 3 to 5 days. Therefore, you must ensure that the selected planting soil can drain water in time to prevent it from being waterlogged.

Planting method

In order to provide the kernel with a good germination environment, we can choose to sow the seeds in indoor pots now, and then transplant them outdoors after they grow a little bigger.

First, put the qualified cultivation soil into a flowerpot and dig a small hole in the flowerpot.

Then place the sprouted nucleus into the small pit. At this time, you should pay attention to place the buds downwards, because the buds will grow into the roots of the plant.

Note that there is no need to cover the soil afterwards. The main purpose of burying the young shoots in the soil is to provide the peach pit with a substrate for germination and rooting. If the peach pit is buried entirely in the soil, it may cause the peach pit to rot.

Then put it away and wait until the seedlings grow taller before transplanting them.
