Greenhouse melon planting technology and management methods Greenhouse melon cultivation key points

Many people call melon muskmelon. It is a fruit that likes high temperature, is drought-resistant and not frost-resistant. It is now grown in many areas and there are many varieties. It tastes sweet and fragrant, and some melons have the fragrance of honey. And now that greenhouse planting technology is perfect, melons can be eaten in many seasons.

Greenhouse melon planting time

The most suitable time for greenhouse melon planting is in the middle and early March . At this time, the temperature gradually rises, and the air humidity slowly recovers from the dryness of winter. In addition, the greenhouse environment can avoid the influence of most adverse external factors, so it is a more suitable choice.

Greenhouse melon planting technology

1. Variety selection

When planting melons, you should choose melon varieties with good appearance, high quality, high yield and strong adaptability . Such melons are relatively easy to plant and manage, and high yields can be easily achieved.

2. Preparation before planting

Before planting, the greenhouse needs to be covered and heated up in advance . In the north, the soil freezes in winter and needs to be thawed before planting. Disinfect the greenhouse 7 to 10 days before planting, spray with 45% chlorothalonil smoke agent + 20% isoprocarb smoke agent, and pay attention to ventilating to expel harmful gases.

3. Ditching and fertilization

Melon is a light-loving crop. After deep plowing of the land , apply decomposed organic fertilizer , then mix the soil and fertilizer thoroughly, then level it to make ridges , dig planting holes, apply calcium, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers in the holes, and prepare for planting.

4. Planting

Generally, the planting is done in late February or early March. The planting density in the greenhouse is 1,500 plants per mu , and the row spacing is generally 1 meter. After a small amount of water is poured in the ditch, the seedlings are immediately arranged according to the row spacing, planted, and covered with soil.

Greenhouse melon management methods

1. Water and fertilizer management

Water once 1-2 days after transplanting . This is very helpful for cultivating strong seedlings. Then pay attention to the application of water before flowering and water for melon swelling. During the melon swelling period, apply compound fertilizers such as potassium sulfate and potassium nitrate.

According to the soil moisture, apply appropriate amount of topdressing and watering to prevent the melons from cracking. If the tree is not in good condition, you can also spray potassium dihydrogen phosphate or chitosan fertilizer on the leaves to increase the sweetness of the fruit.

2. Thinning melons

According to the growth of the plants and the number of fruit set, the melons should be thinned out reasonably, and the deformed, cracked and oversized melons should be removed to keep the melons of good quality. Generally, 3 to 5 melons are kept in the first batch, and 2 to 3 melons are kept in the second and third batches.

3. Pest and disease control

When cleaning the garden in winter, pay attention to timely cleaning of diseased branches and leaves, burn diseased plants in time , and increase fertilizer application to improve the growth of weak plants. If downy mildew occurs, 10% cyazofamid suspension 1000 times liquid can be used for prevention and treatment.

Powdery mildew can be controlled with 800 times diluted 25% ethidium bromide suspension, and whiteflies, aphids, etc. can be controlled with 8000 times diluted 70% imidacloprid wettable powder.
