How to make cuttings of Begonia take root quickly?

Many of you probably know about Begonia, and there are many varieties of it. Rieger Begonia is a special one, with bright colors and a long flowering period, so many people raise it. So how do you propagate Rieger Begonia by cuttings?

How to root Begonia by cuttings

1. Cutting time

There are not many restrictions on the time for cuttings of Begonia. As long as the temperature is suitable, cuttings can be taken all year round . The best time for cuttings is spring and autumn, when the temperature is suitable, the growth rate is fast, and the survival rate is high.

2. Cut the cuttings

Choose a long and tall crabapple plant, and cut off the sturdy leaves with petioles from the plant. It needs to be an annual plant without any diseases or pests. Appropriate leaves can increase the survival rate of cuttings.

After cutting the leaves, you need to process them. Cut the petiole obliquely into parts, then add rooting water solution, dip the petiole in the rooting water for a while, and place it in a cool and ventilated place to allow the cut of the leaf to dry naturally.

3. Prepare the matrix

The culture medium is also an important step in cuttings. The matrix should be loose, breathable, and rich in nutrients. It can be mixed with garden soil, leaf humus, and vermiculite, which is more suitable for cuttings. After preparation, it should be disinfected and sterilized before being used for cuttings.

4. Take cuttings

It does not need to be inserted too deep. Insert the treated leaves into the substrate and gently press the surrounding soil to keep the soil moist. Then place it in a cool and ventilated place, provide soft, diffuse light, maintain 15-20℃, and spray regularly to promote leaf rooting.

Precautions for cuttings of Rieger Begonia

After the leaves are planted in the soil, compact the soil surface, keep the soil moist, spray a small amount of water on the leaves every 3-6 days, and place in a cool place for careful care until rooting. If hydroponics is required, change it every 10 days or so, and the best cutting environment is 15-22℃.
