The cutting method and precautions of Pentaphyllum truncatum. Which month is suitable for cutting?

The most common way of propagation of Pentaphyllum is by cutting , which is done by cutting a healthy and disease-free branch and inserting it into the prepared soil. After careful care, a new plant can be obtained.

Time for cutting of Pennisetum odoratum

The best time to take cuttings of Pogostemon cablin is from May to October every year . When the temperature is above 15℃, it can be used for cuttings. Because of its strong growth ability, as long as the environment is warm, the survival rate of the cuttings is high.

If the time is not long, you can also do cuttings in summer or winter . However, during these two periods, you should pay attention to cooling down and keep warm, keeping the temperature between 15-25℃. This is conducive to the survival of the cuttings.

How to propagate pennywort

1. Prepare the substrate

Pogostemon cablin is suitable for growing in loose and well-drained soil, and it is easy to survive by cuttings. You can prepare leaf mold, peat, and perlite, and mix them evenly in a ratio of 6:2:2 as a cutting matrix.

2. Choose cuttings

Choose a good-growing pennywort, a healthy branch, cut off from the root, cut off about 5-8 cm, cut off the extra leaves, leaving 2-3 leaves. Then disinfect the branch with disinfectant, place it in a cool and ventilated place to dry in the shade for later use.

3. Cuttings

Prepare a large pot for cuttings, fill the base of the cuttings, and use chopsticks or other tools to poke a few small holes in the substrate, keeping a distance of 3-5 cm and a hole depth of 2-4 cm. Then insert the treated cuttings into the holes and compact the soil. Do not water during the rooting period, and it will take about 10 days to take root.

4. Post-maintenance

After the cutting method is completed, the plant should be placed in a ventilated place with an ambient temperature between 15-25℃. Do not water too much at the beginning, and do not fertilize. Wait until new roots grow, then increase watering appropriately to prevent the bottom from rotting and affecting rooting.
