Cactus cutting time and method

Cactus cutting time

An ambient temperature between 20 and 25 degrees is most conducive to the rapid rooting of cactus cuttings. Generally speaking, spring and autumn are more suitable for cactus cuttings. In spring, it can be done in April and May, and in autumn, it can be done in September and October.

Cactus cutting method

1. Prepare the soil

There are no strict requirements for the potting soil for cactus cuttings. Ordinary garden soil will do, but the potting soil must be loose, breathable and fertile. It is best to choose plain sandy soil for cuttings. Flower lovers can also prepare their own nutrient soil. It is recommended to use a mixture of leaf mold and fine sand for the nutrient soil.

2. Choose cuttings

There are some requirements for the selection of cuttings for cactus cuttings. Choose old leaves that are strong and full, not new leaves. After picking the cuttings from the base, place them in a ventilated and cool environment, and you can cut them after the wounds are dry.

3. Scientific cuttings

Fill the flowerpot with potting soil and water it appropriately to keep the soil slightly moist. Then insert the prepared cuttings into the soil. Note that the wound should face downwards and the end without the wound should face upwards.

Maintenance of cactus after cutting

The care of cactus is relatively simple. After cutting, place the pot in a cool, ventilated and shaded place, and basically don't need to take care of it. After the soil in the pot is dry, water it thoroughly. When watering the cactus, generally follow the principle of watering when the soil is dry and then wet it. After a period of cultivation, the cactus will take root.
