How to prune Zhenlong pomelo? Pruning time and technical methods

Zhenlong pomelo pruning time

Zhenlong pomelo needs to be pruned several times a year, mainly during the growing season and after fruit picking. Pruning Zhenlong pomelo can reduce local nutrient consumption and promote the growth of new branches, which will result in vigorous flowering and increased fruit yield.

How to prune Zhenlong pomelo

1. March to July every year

March to July every year is the time when Zhenlong pomelo grows and blooms intensively. At this time, all the overgrown branches, diseased and insect-infested branches, and dead branches should be removed in time. For branches that grow too densely, one-third of the main branches should be cut off.

Note that pruning should be done in multiple times to avoid too many wounds on the fruit trees that weaken their resistance to diseases and pests. At this time, the focus is on thinning, and try not to shorten the main branches to facilitate the flowering and fruiting of the Zhenlong pomelo. Branches with thicker trunks and fewer flowers should also be pruned in time to avoid nutrient waste.

2. After picking the fruit

Generally, winter has arrived after the Zhenlong pomelo fruit picking is completed. At this time, the main focus is on pruning the Zhenlong pomelo branches. The first step is to lower the height of the entire Zhenlong pomelo, and cut off about 50 centimeters of branches that are more than 3 meters long, and cut off the excess branches to leave only the skeleton branches.

The branches at the bottom should not be too dense or too flush. Overdense branches should be thinned out, leaving only one-third of the branches. Flat branches should be adjusted by hanging, pulling, etc. to ensure that the Zhenlong pomelo can grow a large number of healthy new buds and branches in the next year.
