How to propagate cyclamen

How to propagate cyclamen

1. Seed propagation

First, we need to collect its seeds. Make sure the seeds we choose are plump and healthy. Freshly picked seeds may contain more water. We can dry them in the shade for 3 to 4 days and then dry them in the sun. It is best to sow seeds after the beginning of autumn and before the first snow. Before sowing, soak the seeds in water for about one night. Then plant the soaked seeds in the potting soil prepared in advance and water them sufficiently. After that, keep the soil moist and give it the right temperature, and it will germinate in about 40 days.

2. Propagation by dividing tubers

This method of propagation requires us to do the cuttings ourselves. The time is usually in late August, because the tubers are about to sprout at this time. We need to cut the tuber longitudinally into several small pieces from its top, making sure that each small piece contains the eye, and apply wood ash on the cut for sterilization. Then put it in a cool place to dry, and then you can plant it in the pot prepared in advance. As long as you take care of it patiently, it will soon grow leaves.

3. Tissue culture propagation

We can select young stems or stamens from plants that have grown for 1 to 2 years as explants. Then use hormones to induce it to grow seedlings, among which the stems are the easiest to induce. If stem tubers are selected as explants, we can use MS medium. After the seedlings grow out, let them gradually receive light, and then plant them in the potting soil prepared in advance. Provided with a suitable environment, they will soon grow leaves and bloom. However, this method is not very practical for families, so we usually choose the first two methods.
