How to plant Aristolochia tubulosa seeds

How to plant Aristolochia tubulosa seeds

1. Seed collection

The seeds of this plant are not long-lasting, so it is recommended to sow them immediately after harvesting. When you find that the fruit has turned from fresh green to yellow, you can pick the seeds in the yellow fruit. If you don't pick them for too long, they will crack on their own. The seeds that were not planted at the time can be soaked in gibberellin and then stored in wet sand, but the germination rate will decrease in the second year and the germination time will also be inconsistent.

2. Sowing time

It is usually chosen in spring when the temperature rises, and March and April are the best months. Can be sown directly or raised as seedlings.

3. Sowing Method

1. Choose soft soil with good drainage and air permeability, and trim it. Remove stones and weeds to make a seedbed. Dig several 5-centimeter-deep trenches about 25 centimeters apart, irrigate with appropriate amount of water, and sow seeds at intervals of 10 centimeters.

2. Press the seeds lightly with your toes, or cover them with a thin layer of soil. After covering the soil, cover the soil surface with straw mats or rice straw. This will reduce water loss. You can gently lift the straw on time and replenish water in time when it is lacking. Once the seedlings emerge, you can remove the straw mat.

4. Post-maintenance

1. After the seeds grow into seedlings, they need to be watered appropriately. When the soil fertility is insufficient, fertilizer needs to be added. Nitrogen fertilizer can be applied, and it is only necessary to add fertilizer once during the seedling stage.

2. In April of the second year after planting, the seedlings have grown up and can be transplanted. The soil for planting should be sandy soil or humus soil, and base fertilizer should be added, and the plants should be planted at a distance of 40*30 cm. Nitrogen fertilizer can be added twice during the period from planting to flowering.

3. Pay attention to shade during the seedling period. They prefer a humid and fertile environment. Long-term sunlight exposure will cause water loss on the leaves. Although it likes moisture, too much water can cause the plant to die.
