When and how to plant broccoli

When and how to plant broccoli

Broccoli planting time

Broccoli can be planted twice a year, in March in spring and around July in summer. If planted in March and managed properly, it can be harvested by early June. If planted in July, it can be harvested by mid-September. If cultivated in a greenhouse, fresh broccoli can be eaten all year round.

How to grow broccoli

1. Site selection and land preparation

Broccoli is suitable for growing in sandy loam with convenient irrigation and drainage, deep soil layer, loose and fertile soil and strong water and fertilizer retention capacity. Before planting broccoli seedlings, the selected land needs to be deeply plowed, and some decomposed farmyard manure and phosphorus and potassium fertilizers and other fertilizers should be applied to the soil as base fertilizer.

2. Planting method

Choose good quality broccoli seeds, place them in warm water to germinate, and then sow them in the soil prepared in advance. Cover them with a thin layer of soil. If the ambient temperature is relatively low, cover them with plastic film to keep them warm.

3. Water the roots

After planting broccoli, you need to water it thoroughly immediately to allow the seeds and soil to combine closely so that the broccoli can survive and grow quickly. Otherwise, if there is insufficient water in the soil, the broccoli seedlings will easily wilt and dry up. After it survives, you can reduce watering appropriately.

Things to note when growing broccoli

During the growth period of broccoli, the soil needs to be cultivated and weeded frequently, which can also make the soil more loose and breathable. Broccoli needs sufficient nutrients to grow, so after planting, it is necessary to apply seedling fertilizer in time to promote vigorous growth of broccoli.
