How to grow cactus

1. Breeding environment

1. Soil: Cactus is a desert plant and is suitable for acidic or slightly acidic soil. It can be mixed with leaf mold, garden soil, coarse sand, and decomposed bone meal.

2. Watering: Cactus likes a humid environment. Spring, summer and autumn are its peak growth periods. At this time, you should increase the amount of watering to ensure that the soil is moist. If you grow it indoors, spray water around it frequently to increase the air humidity. In winter, when the soil is dry, water it in the classroom. If the indoor temperature is low in winter, the soil should be kept slightly dry.

3. Light: When exposed to strong sunlight in the summer, you must take shading measures. In other seasons, you can place it in a place with sufficient light. Do not place it in a cool place indoors for a long time, otherwise the color will turn black. It should be placed outdoors in sunlight for about 2-3 days each month.

4. Fertilization: Generally, phosphorus fertilizer is used as the main fertilizer. Do not apply too much fertilizer, otherwise the soil concentration will be greater than the root concentration, and the cactus will become dehydrated.

2. Breeding Methods

1. Propagation by cuttings: Use a knife to split the bulblets. If the wound is too big, let it dry and place it on the sand. Do not insert it into the sand. Add a little water to the sand surface. After inserting, place it in a room with a temperature above 20℃ and it will start to grow after one month.

2. Seeding propagation: Soak the seeds in warm water for 3 days before sowing, then water them. Keep the temperature at around 25°C, cover them with white paper and glass. Seedlings will emerge after a month. Remove the white paper and glass after emergence. No top dressing is needed. After one year of growth, divide the seedlings into pots.

3. Common pests and diseases

Common diseases and pests of cactus include anthracnose, scale insects and whiteflies. Generally, ventilation should be strengthened and moisture should be controlled. When diseases and pests are discovered, they should be sprayed with pesticides in time.
