When and how to plant arugula

When and how to plant arugula

Arugula Planting Time

The suitable temperature for arugula to germinate is between 15-20 degrees, so it is best to plant it around April in spring. If it is sown in April, it will enter a period of vigorous growth in May, which can increase the yield and quality of arugula.

How to grow arugula

1. Site selection and land preparation

Arugula is very drought-resistant and resistant to barrenness, and does not have too many requirements for the planting site. However, if you want high yields, it is best to choose loose, fertile, well-drained soil with a moisture content of about 80 to 90 percent. After selecting the land, carefully cultivate the land, apply sufficient base fertilizer, then dig trenches and make ridges and wait for sowing.

2. Sowing method

There are three ways to sow arugula: direct sowing, row sowing, and broadcast sowing. Before sowing, the seeds and fine soil can be mixed evenly to ensure uniform planting. When sowing, pay attention to controlling the row spacing at about 15-20 cm. After sowing, cover the seeds with a thin soil and water them thoroughly once.

3. Field management

Usually, arugula will sprout about 5 days after planting. When the arugula grows a pair of true leaves, it can be thinned out and weak and diseased seedlings can be pulled out in time. At the same time, attention should be paid to weeding, and the plant spacing should be controlled at about 20 cm, and combined with intertillage.

Arugula planting precautions

During the growth of arugula, it is necessary to water and drain in time to keep the soil moist. In order to promote the growth of arugula and increase its yield and quality, we must apply fertilizer scientifically. When applying fertilizer, we must apply nitrogen fertilizer and compound fertilizer reasonably according to the growth conditions of the plants. Generally, fertilizer is applied once a week or so.
