Guangdong Chinese cabbage planting time and method

Guangdong Chinese cabbage planting time and method

Planting time of Guangdong Chinese cabbage

Guangdong cabbage is suitable for planting in spring and autumn, specifically in March or September. These two time periods are the peak growth periods for Guangdong cabbage, and the quality is better than that planted at other times. However, due to the development of science and technology, it can now be planted all year round.

Guangdong Chinese cabbage planting method

1. Variety selection

There are many varieties of Chinese cabbage, the most common ones are red Chinese cabbage, white Chinese cabbage, four-nine Chinese cabbage, green Chinese cabbage, willow-leaf Chinese cabbage, etc. It is necessary to choose the appropriate variety for planting according to the climate of the planting area and market demand, so as to obtain the greatest economic benefits.

2. Sowing method

The sowing methods of Chinese cabbage include direct sowing, row sowing and seedling transplanting. The simplest way is direct sowing. Choose full seeds and sow them evenly into loose soil. After the seedlings emerge, thin out and fill in the gaps. Thin out the seedlings at 20-30 cm, leaving only two seedlings for each plant.

Row sowing is to dig a 10 cm wide and 3-5 cm deep trench at a spacing of 30 cm, then evenly spread the seeds into the trench and cover them with a thin layer of soil. Finally, thinning and reseeding are carried out after the seedlings emerge, and the spacing is controlled at about 25 cm.

3. Field management

During the growth period of Guangdong Chinese cabbage, fertilization, watering and weeding are required. Fertilization should be done in time to meet its growth needs. Each fertilization can be combined with weeding, which can reduce nutrient loss and promote nutrient absorption. Water frequently and usually keep the moisture in the field at around 70%.

Precautions for planting Guangdong Chinese cabbage

Guangdong cabbage has strong resistance and basically has no diseases, but it is also prone to aphids, leaf rollers and cabbage moths. It can be treated in time by spraying dichlorvos or malathion emulsion. However, be careful not to spray any pesticides about 15 days before harvest, otherwise it will remain on the leaves and cause food poisoning.
