How to keep seeds from sweet potato leaves

Sweet potato leaves have seeds, which grow in oval capsules. There are 1-4 seeds in the fruit, but the requirements for seed production are relatively high, because it takes a long time for sweet potatoes to bloom, and they are generally harvested before flowering.

If you want to save sweet potato leaves for seeds, you should choose a healthy mother plant and do not harvest it immediately after it matures. This way you can wait until it blooms and bears fruit. After the fruit is ripe, pick it and remove the impurities inside to get the seeds.

Sweet potato leaf seed propagation

Sweet potato leaves can be propagated by seeds. The sowing time is between April and May in spring. When the temperature is stable at 15-20℃, the seeds can germinate quickly and usually take root and sprout in 3-7 days.

How to plant sweet potato leaf seeds

1. Seed treatment

When selecting sweet potato leaves, you need to choose those that are strong and free of diseases and pests. Such seeds have strong vitality. Before planting, they should be soaked in a solution of carbendazim for about ten minutes and then sown.

2. Sowing

Sweet potato leaf seeds can be sown in holes. After sowing, cover the outside with a thin layer of soil, and then cover it with a layer of dead grass and rotten wood. When the seedlings grow to 30-40 cm, they can be cut and propagated. After planting, pay attention to proper fertilization and watering.
