How to prune golden bell flowers and the precautions

When is the best time to prune golden bell flowers?

It is appropriate to prune the campanula after it has withered. All the remaining flowers on the plant need to be removed, and the entire flower should be pruned from the flower stalk and stem nodes. Timely pruning of the withered flowers can avoid unnecessary nutrient consumption on the campanula plant.

Golden bell flower pruning

After planting, when the seedlings are 30 to 50 cm tall, erect supporting bamboos about 2 meters high next to the seedlings to guide the plants to grow upright. The seedlings should be tied every 50 cm they grow taller.

During the growing period, regular pruning and shaping should be carried out to cut off the low-growing side branches. After the leaves fall in winter, unified pruning and shaping should be carried out to cut off diseased branches, dead branches and side branches growing in low places to keep the main trunk growing straight.

Since the bark of the golden bell flower is thin, it is easily damaged by friction from the supporting bamboo poles. Once damaged, large wounds are easily formed, affecting the appearance. Therefore, soft cloth should be lined on the contact area between the main trunk and the supporting bamboo poles to avoid damage to the bark.

Pruning makes it grow faster: Prune regularly during the growth period, cut off the lower branches growing from the sides, and prune again in winter after the leaves fall.

Pruning and flowering: During the growth and development of the bellflower, prune off the aging and dry leaves at the bottom of the plant at any time. Prune the remaining flowers in time after the flowers on the plant fade, and prune off all the branches after all the flowers on the branches have faded.

Precautions for pruning golden bell flowers

The tools used for pruning are mainly ordinary gardening pruning knives, which must be cleaned, disinfected and sterilized before use to avoid the invasion of bacteria at the incision. Pruning knives with sharp blades can complete the pruning work in one cut without multiple injuries.
