Gourds generally mature in July and August, but this time is not fixed. It may be extended to September and October in the northern region. It depends on many factors such as planting time, distribution area, and growth environment. Generally speaking, gourds are best harvested in summer and autumn, and the market price is about 1-1.5 yuan per catty.

Gourd growth cycle

Gourds are generally planted in March and April, no later than May. They will germinate about a week after planting. The plants are suitable for growing in an environment with good drainage, fertile soil and good irrigation conditions. They have strong adaptability to the soil. The most suitable growth temperature is 20-30℃. The daily light time must be more than 6 hours, and the whole growth period is about 105 days.

Gourd varieties and origins

There are many varieties of gourds. The common varieties include large sub-waist gourd, treasure gourd, small sub-waist gourd, miniature sub-waist gourd, large gourd single-belly gourd, long-handled hammer-shaped gourd, round gourd, apple-shaped gourd, etc.

The gourd is native to India and Africa. Common production areas in my country include Hebei, Liaoning, Jilin, Jiangsu, Anhui, Hubei, Henan and other regions. Among them, the ornamental gourds from Gansu, Beijing, Tianjin and other places are very famous.
