How to plant Lithops? Planting time and method

Lithops planting time

Lithops can generally be planted in the autumn of each year, specifically in September, but it can also be sown in winter or spring. As long as the temperature is suitable, it can be planted. Usually the temperature needs to be maintained at 12 to 15°C at night and 24 to 27°C during the day.

Lithops planting method

Soil : The soil for planting lithops is best to use loose, breathable and soft soil. Never use clay or saline-alkali soil. Usually you can choose peat soil, rice husk charcoal, a small amount of garden soil and granular soil to mix and prepare.

Water and fertilizer : Lithops do not require a lot of water during its growth process, otherwise it is very easy to cause root rot. However, during the peak growth period of the plant, you can use nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer, which can be diluted before being irrigated into the soil.

Light : Lithops need to be exposed to bright and sufficient light, but they need to be properly shielded from strong light in the summer. The light is relatively weak in the winter, so the daily light duration needs to be extended to ensure that Lithops can carry out complete and good photosynthesis.

Temperature control : The temperature suitable for the growth of Lithops is 15~25℃, so the temperature needs to be controlled within this range when planting. Lithops is not very cold-resistant, so the temperature in winter should not be lower than 5℃, otherwise there is a risk of frost damage.

How to plant the newly bought Lithops

You should check the roots of the Lithops first after buying it. If there are unhealthy roots, trim them off and only keep the main root. Prepare clean potting soil, place the roots of the Lithops in a ventilated place to dry, and put them in the soil after they are dry, stretch out the roots, and bury the roots of the Lithops with soil.

How to grow Lithops quickly

In order for Lithops to grow fast, it is necessary to ensure sufficient light, choose lime-rich soil for planting, and have good drainage. In addition, the most suitable temperature for growth is 20-24℃. Pay attention to keeping warm in winter, the temperature should not be lower than 10℃, and also pay attention to watering. Water every 3-5 days during the growing period, water sparingly in summer, fertilize every half a month, and stop fertilizing after flowering in autumn.

Matters Needing Attention in Potted Lithops Cultivation

The root system of Lithops is not well developed, so it is best to grow it in a small pot, which should not be too deep. When watering Lithops, be sure not to water it too much, otherwise it will easily lead to water accumulation in the pot, causing the root system of the plant to rot, and seriously affecting its growth.
