Lemon Introduction

Lemon is a plant of the genus Citrus, also known as lemon fruit, citron, and motherwort fruit. It is mainly distributed in the area south of the Yangtze River. It was originally distributed in Southeast Asia. The main producing areas are the United States, Italy, Spain and Greece. Varieties include Eureka lemon, Lisbon lemon, Indian big fruit lemon, Genoa lemon, Ferminello lemon, etc.

Lemon Growing Conditions

Lemon likes a warm environment, is not cold-resistant, and is afraid of heat. It likes a semi-shaded environment and is not resistant to direct sunlight. Therefore, it is suitable for planting in areas with warm winters and cool summers.

Climate and temperature for lemon cultivation

The suitable annual average temperature for lemons is 17 to 19 degrees, the annual effective accumulated temperature (≥10℃) is above 5500 degrees, the average temperature in January is 6 to 8 degrees, the extreme minimum temperature is above minus 3 degrees, the annual rainfall is more than 1000 mm, and the annual sunshine hours are more than 1000 hours.

Suitable areas for growing lemons

Lemons are suitable for growing in warm areas, preferably on gently sloping land with deep, loose, fertile soil and good drainage. The pH value is between 5.5-7.0. Lemons are native to Malaysia and are distributed in the United States, Italy and other places. They are also grown in Taiwan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian and other places in China.

Lemon Planting Time

Lemons can be sown in spring and autumn. The best time for sowing is from February to May in spring and from August to October in autumn. During these two periods, there is plenty of sunshine, sufficient rainfall and a warm climate. The specific sowing time in different regions should be determined according to the actual local climate temperature.
