Can mangosteen be potted?

Mangosteen seeds can be planted in potted plants, but it is not the main method of propagation and the operation is rather troublesome. It is okay to plant them in potted plants at home for viewing, but they cannot be used for large-scale planting. In other words, if you want to view them, potted plants will do, and if you want to pay attention to economic benefits, plant them in the ground.

When you first start planting mangosteen in a pot, you don’t need to choose a large pot. You can use common plastic pots or ceramic pots. After years of cultivation, the potted mangosteen can also bear fruit. The taste of the fruit is not as good as that of the one planted in the ground.

Mangosteen potted cultivation method

1. Soil preparation

Its requirements for soil are reflected in nutrition, drainage and pH. It is better to choose fertile, easy-to-drain and slightly acidic soil, which is easier to grow.

2. Pruning

During the maintenance process, pruning should be done frequently to remove diseased and weak branches. Light pruning is sufficient, and no excessive pruning will damage the tree. Correct pruning is conducive to flowering and fruiting, and the time is in spring.

3. Watering

During the growth period of mangosteen, it needs a lot of water. However, even during the growth period, it is best not to accumulate water. In winter, it cannot be completely without watering. When the temperature is suitable, it is necessary to replenish water in time.

4. Fertilization

Generally, after planting, in late March each year, 10-15 kg of urea, potassium fertilizer and 50 kg of phosphorus fertilizer are applied evenly on the stumps and whips of the bamboo plants in combination with loosening the soil and weeding. This is conducive to the rapid growth of mangosteen buds.

5. Lighting

Mangosteen prefers weak light, and strong light is not suitable for it. Specifically, the degree of shading should be between 40% and 75%. Of course, it can also be placed directly in a semi-shaded position.
