Cutting propagation methods and precautions for jujube trees

Date tree cutting time

Jujube trees are generally distributed in areas below 1,700 meters above sea level, and are commonly found in mountainous areas, hills or plains. They are widely planted in China. The fruit turns from red to reddish purple when ripe, has a thick skin and sweet flesh.

Jujube trees can easily take root in an environment of 22 to 26 degrees, so it is best to carry out cuttings in June and July. When cutting, first wet the soil, then dip the cuttings in the slurry and insert them into the hole, and compact the soil.

Cutting propagation method of jujube tree

1. Choose a plot of land that is sheltered from the wind, facing the sun, with higher terrain and good drainage. The soil needs to be disinfected, renovated, and some decomposed farmyard manure can be applied to meet the nutrient needs of the date tree during its growth period.

2. It is best to carry out cuttings for jujube trees in June-September. Select root suckers, side branches, 3-year-old young seedlings or young grafted seedlings, cut off the semi-lignified side branches as cuttings, trim the leaves at the base, and keep the leaves on the upper part. You can soak the bottom of the branch in a cornstarch solution for 2 to 4 hours before cutting.

3. Insert the prepared jujube tree branches into the soil and water them thoroughly to keep the soil moist. If the ambient temperature is low, cover the soil with mulch to enhance the ability to keep warm and moisturize. This way, they will take root quickly and can be exposed to some light afterwards.

Precautions for cutting of jujube tree

The jujube tree should not be exposed to strong light immediately after cuttings, and it is also not resistant to direct sunlight at this time. It is best to place it in a place with scattered light, water and spray it in time to keep the substrate moist. Such an environment is suitable for root germination. After it takes root, you can apply foliar fertilizer, spraying once every 3 to 5 days, and you can use urea and potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution.
