Plum cutting propagation methods and precautions

Plum blossom cutting propagation method

The best time to propagate plum blossoms is in spring, when the ambient temperature is around 20 degrees, which is helpful for root germination and has a higher survival rate. It can also be done in summer and autumn. Indoor propagation in winter is also feasible, but the ambient temperature needs to be kept between 20 and 25 degrees. The specific method of propagating plum blossoms is as follows:

1. Plant the branches of plum blossom cuttings in pots with good air permeability. Use common sandy soil, or a mixture of river sand, leaf mold, and garden soil, or a mixture of peat soil and perlite in equal proportions. Disinfect the potting soil in advance and expose it to the sun. If there is no sunlight, use carbendazim diluted with water for watering.

2. Choose one-year-old, strong, disease-free cork branches. Branches that are too old are difficult to root by cuttings. The success rate of planting with cork branches is very high. The incision should be smooth and the pruning scissors need to be disinfected in advance to avoid bacterial infection.

3. Plant the branches in the soil, water them thoroughly once, keep the soil in the pot slightly moist, avoid the soil from being too dry, keep the maintenance environment warm, and then place them in a sunny place. This will easily ensure the success rate of cuttings.

Precautions for plum blossom cuttings

After the plum blossom cuttings are completed, they need to be placed in a place where the sunlight is not strong, and the ventilation should be kept smooth. Water and spray water frequently to keep the substrate moist, then it will take root soon. The light exposure time can be extended afterwards, but it cannot be exposed to strong light. Shade measures need to be taken in summer.
