How to prune clematis

Cut semi-mature branches from the clematis, cut them from the middle part of the upper and lower sections, remove the leaves on the lower part, and keep the leaves on the upper part to ensure survival.

You can leave 1-2 nodes above the soil surface and cut them off, or you can start pruning from the second year and leave a height of 1-1.5 meters. Or when pruning, choose the cut about 1 cm above a pair of strong buds, which can promote good growth of the plant.

Clematis Pruning Tips

Observe the flowering branches of the clematis. If the flowers are on old branches or have double petals, they can be lightly pruned in spring. If they are on new branches, they need to be heavily pruned in winter.
