When is the right time to sow camellia?

Camellia planting time

Camellia, also known as camellia, belongs to the Theaceae camellia plant. Its origin is in eastern China. It prefers warm and humid environment, but is afraid of high temperature weather and should not be exposed to strong light. The suitable temperature for its growth is 18-24℃, and the suitable temperature for its flowering is 10-20℃.

The sowing time for camellia is generally in April in spring, or around October in autumn. The temperature is just right at this time, which is conducive to its later growth and development. Cuttings are generally in June and July, and transplanting can be done in September and October. When planting, it is best to choose slightly acidic soil, and it should be loose, breathable and well-drained.

Camellia sowing method

When planting camellia, it is best to choose seeds with full grains. Generally, acidic soil mixed with leaf mold and soil is selected. After planting the seeds, a small amount of water is needed to keep the soil moist. It will germinate in about 20 days. When 4-5 heart leaves grow, they can be transplanted into pots for cultivation.

The specific method is:

1. When planting camellia, the temperature should be around 20 degrees and the air should be moist. It is best to choose slightly acidic soil and ensure that it is loose and breathable. It is not suitable to plant seeds outdoors in winter, but it is okay if the temperature is guaranteed because the plant is not cold-resistant.

2. When selecting seeds for camellia planting, it is best to choose relatively full and rich seeds. Soak them in water for two to three days before planting, and change the water every day during this period.

3. After soaking the seeds, take them out and dry them. Then cover the seeds with a layer of sand and wait for the camellia to germinate.

Camellia flowering time

Under normal circumstances, camellia blooms in winter, but the actual flowering time depends on the local climate. Due to the large temperature difference between the north and the south, the flowering time of camellia is also very different. The south generally blooms in March and April, while the north has a very low temperature, so the flowering season will be delayed and it will not bloom until May.
