Cultivation methods and maintenance matters of old boxwood piles

How to grow boxwood into an old pile

Boxwood is suitable for planting in purple clay pots. The colors of the pots are mostly purple or light yellow. The shape of the pot should be chosen according to the shape of the plant. A deep thousand-tube pot can be used for the cliff-style, and an oval or rectangular pot can be used for the inclined or curved trunk style. Therefore, it is best to dig out old stumps from the fields when planting boxwood trees, and then trim its excess branches and old roots.

Although boxwood stumps can be dug up all year round, it is recommended to do it in summer if you want your bonsai to have a higher survival rate.

Cultivation method of old boxwood pile

It is best to plant old boxwood stumps in a sunny, well-ventilated and humid environment. Appropriate shading is needed in summer. During the maintenance of old boxwood stumps, the soil in the pot needs to be kept moist, and fertilizers should be applied in time to meet its nutrient needs.

Pruning old boxwood

Boxwood grows slowly and is very resistant to pruning. New stumps taken down from the mountains do not need to be pruned after they take root. Remove excess branches and buds, select useful branches and let them grow wildly. After 1-2 years of rejuvenation, the initial shaping can be carried out, which mainly involves cutting the trunk and storing branches. Pruning can be carried out once in spring and autumn to remove dense branches and leaves, wipe out useless buds on the branches, and cut off all kinds of messy branches that do not meet the shaping requirements.

Old boxwood stump in pot

Old boxwood stumps are evergreen plants. In order to enhance their ornamental value, you can choose purple or light yellow purple clay pots or glazed pottery pots. As for the shape of the pot, you can choose it according to the shape of your own boxwood, so that the boxwood bonsai looks more beautiful.

Old boxwood stump sprouts

There is no specified time period for boxwood to germinate. Will it take dozens of days to germinate? No, but it is estimated that it will be difficult for boxwood with all its leaves cut off to germinate. However, if there are leaves, it will germinate quickly.

Old boxwood stump grows aerial roots

If aerial roots grow on an old boxwood stump, do not cut them off. Just leave them. The growing aerial roots can help the old stump grow stronger. If the aerial roots of the old stump are cut off, the old stump will stagnate in growth until new aerial roots grow again.

Maintenance of old boxwood piles

Old boxwood stumps grow vigorously from May to August. At this time, a thin layer of fertilizer can be applied once a month. During the growth period, overlong branches, dense branches, and redundant branches need to be pruned off, otherwise it will affect its normal growth. Boxwood trees are more susceptible to bacteria and will experience leaf fall. The leaves need to be cleaned and dust removed so that they can grow better.
