How to save seeds of Jade Dew

Jade plant can produce seeds, but it will not do so on its own. It can only produce seeds after assisted pollination. The seeds can be picked in time after they are mature. Pollination should be done in clear weather. Choose two flowering plants, use a brush to dip the pollen, and then apply it to the other plant.

1. Jade plant will not produce seeds by itself and needs artificial pollination. When the weather is good, you can choose two varieties with vigorous flowering and good growth as parents. It is best if the leaves are compact and round. Then you can carry out artificial pollination.

2. Pick off the petals of two flowering plants, dip a brush in pollen, and apply it to the other plant. You can also save the pollen and do it the next morning. This will increase the success rate. The flowers after pollination will produce seeds, which can be harvested immediately after they are mature.

After harvesting the seeds of Jade Plant, they can be sown immediately, or dried in the shade and then refrigerated. It is best to sow them immediately after harvesting. If they are stored for too long, it will affect germination.

Planting Jade Dew Seeds

Jade plant likes warm and humid environment. It is usually sown in autumn. If it is warm indoors, it can be planted at any time.

1. Planting soil

Jade plant is suitable for planting in soil with good drainage and air permeability. You can put a layer of expanded clay in the seedling pot to increase drainage, and then put a mixture of perlite, vermiculite, Akadama soil, and Kanuma soil on it. Note that the soil needs to be disinfected in advance.

2. Seed disinfection

In addition to soil disinfection, the seeds also need to be disinfected and germinated. They can be soaked in potassium permanganate solution. Because the seeds of Jade Dew are very small, do not soak them for too long. Take them out after half an hour, and then pour the seeds into clean water to germinate. They can be taken out in about 2 days, placed in a ventilated place to dry, and wait for sowing.

3. Jade dew sowing

Sow the sterilized and germinated jade plant seeds evenly on the soil in the seedling pot. Cover them with glass or a transparent plastic bag to keep them warm and moist, and poke a few holes in the bag to help them breathe.
