Where do blueberry seeds come from?

Blueberry seeds are inside the fruit. You can cut fresh blueberries, pick out the seeds with a toothpick, wash them, and then sow them on clean sphagnum moss. They will germinate in about 30 days.

Blueberry Seed Dispersal

After animals eat blueberries, the seeds are indigestible and will be excreted from the body with feces, and then planted in the soil to take root and sprout. Nowadays, artificially cultivated blueberries are generally propagated through artificial cultivation.

How to get blueberry seeds

Blueberry seeds are small and difficult to obtain. You can cut them in half and look at the center of the fruit. There are many black particles growing around the center. These small black particles are the seeds of blueberries.

Blueberry seeds are very small, so we need to use a toothpick to pick them out, rinse them with slow water to remove the remaining pulp, and then soak the seeds in gibberellin to break their dormancy before they can be used for sowing.

Blueberry Seed Planting

1. Blueberries are best planted from autumn to the following spring before budding. The temperature and humidity at this time are suitable for its germination. Warmth-keeping measures need to be taken during low temperatures.

2. First, spread the blueberry seeds evenly in the soil, cover them with a layer of sand, and then water them thoroughly to keep them moist. The seedlings will gradually break through the soil, grow vigorously, and bear fruit.

3. Blueberry seeds are small and can be sown on sphagnum moss. If planted in a box, cover it with a layer of plastic wrap. They usually germinate in about 30 days. The young plants can be transplanted when they grow to 5-8 cm. Take them out of the sphagnum moss container, transplant them into the soil, and then bury and compact them.
