Oranges are distributed in the mountainous areas of Gansu, southern Shaanxi provinces, southern Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu, Guizhou, Guangxi and northeastern Yunnan. Their distribution range in China is quite wide.

Orange Growing Conditions

Oranges prefer a warm and humid environment. The most suitable temperature for orange growth is 37 degrees. When the flower buds differentiate in autumn, the suitable temperature during the day is about 20 degrees, and the suitable temperature at night is about 10 degrees. Plants will suffer from frost damage if the temperature is too low.

In addition, oranges are relatively shade-tolerant, but in order to improve the quality of the fruit, sufficient light conditions need to be provided. Generally, the annual sunshine hours need to be between 1200 and 2200 hours, so that they can grow vigorously and the fruit will be sweeter.

Orange growth temperature

Oranges like a warm environment. Generally, they begin to germinate when the average daily temperature in spring stabilizes at 12.8 degrees. The most suitable average daily temperature for their growth is 23-29 degrees.

Orange planting time

The planting time of oranges is affected by temperature. They are relatively drought-resistant but not cold-resistant, so they are not suitable for planting in summer and winter. Not only will the yield be very low and the quality very poor, but it will also shorten the edible years. The best planting time is March-April and September-October, when the temperature is most suitable.

Orange growth process

Generally, the growth process of oranges is divided into four stages. The first stage is the growth of new shoots, the second stage is the growth of more flower buds, the third stage is when the orange flowers have fallen and begin to bear fruit, but the color is relatively green, and the fourth stage is the mature season in autumn, when they need to be picked.
