Cactus growth environment and conditions

Cactus flowers were originally distributed in the hot and arid desert wilderness of South and North America, and generally grow in hot, dry and rainless desert areas.

Cactus growing conditions

Cactus prefers a high temperature and dry growing environment and is not cold-resistant. In the winter when the temperature in the north is low, watering should be stopped and warming measures should be taken. It is best to place it in a warm room where the temperature should be above 5°C.

Cactus growth temperature

Cactus likes high temperature environment and has weak cold resistance. In winter, the room temperature should be kept above 20 degrees during the day and above 5 degrees at night. Too low temperature can easily cause root rot.

Cactus growth process

Unlike other plants, cactus does not change much in appearance during its growth process, but its size will gradually increase. When it is a seedling, the cactus is emerald green and covered with dense thorns, mostly white in color. When mature, the bulb is larger and the thorns are more scattered. It usually blooms at the top and bears fruit on the thorns.

Cactus planting time and method

Cactus is suitable for sowing in spring and autumn, specifically in May-June or September-October each year. The seeds need to be soaked in warm water for 2-3 days before sowing. Soak the bottom of the pot, cover it with plastic film, and place it at room temperature of about 25 degrees. It will germinate in 4 weeks and can be repotted once every spring.

Before planting cactus, you need to prepare breathable and fertile soil. You can mix silt, humus soil, and perlite, and add appropriate water-soluble fertilizers to the soil. It likes to grow in a poor and water-scarce environment. Do not water it too much. Generally, watering once every half a month is sufficient. Cactus does not need to be fertilized. In winter, the cactus needs to be placed indoors for maintenance.
