How to Keep Jasmine Plants Alive in Winter

How to Keep Jasmine Plants Alive in Winter

1. Take anti-freeze measures

Jasmine has weak cold resistance and is a little fragile in winter, so flower lovers need to take anti-freeze measures for wintering. When we enter early winter, the temperature gradually drops. At this time, we can keep the jasmine flowers outdoors so that they can experience the process of dropping temperature appropriately. In the process of adapting to the environment, there will be corresponding changes as a whole, and they will prepare themselves for the cold winter. When the temperature continues to drop and the lowest temperature reaches about 5 degrees, we have to move the jasmine indoors, but still pay attention to keep it in a place with sufficient light. If there is no heating facility indoors and the minimum indoor temperature drops below 0 degrees, we need to take some insulation measures, such as adding double-layer plastic bags for protection.

2. Control the amount of watering

Some of the usual watering methods cannot be used on jasmine in winter. Because jasmine will hibernate in winter, it does not require much water at this time. Generally in winter we only need to keep the soil inside the flower pot relatively moist. How often should we water it? The editor recommends watering once every 2-3 weeks, with a small amount of water, or watering a small amount in the bottom of the pot. One thing you should pay special attention to is that when the temperature drops sharply, remember not to water the plants. Instead, choose a suitable time, such as when the temperature rises slightly or at noon when the sun is more abundant.

3. Proper pruning

Any flower needs pruning. Proper pruning of excess branches and leaves can maintain the shape of the flowers and promote better growth. Jasmine grows quickly and produces a large number of new branches every year. As winter approaches, we need to prune it properly. We prune new branches, shorten some old branches appropriately, cut off small and weak branches, and leave appropriate leaves.
