Onions can be planted in spring, summer and autumn. Spring planting is generally before the soil thaws in early spring, summer planting is generally from late July to early August, and autumn planting is in early September. Planting is done in early May of the following spring.

Puwei Star No. 3 and Minghui green onion varieties are planted in spring, Puwei Changxia green onion varieties are planted in summer, and Star No. 2 and Mingmen green onion varieties for October seedling cultivation are planted in autumn.

Onion harvest season

The onions planted in spring mature and are harvested in October-December, and the onions planted in summer and autumn mature and are harvested in May-July of the following year. The yield per mu is generally around 5,000 to 10,000 jin.

Steps and methods of growing green onions

1. Seed selection: Select healthy, disease-free, and high-quality green onion varieties. You can also decide the green onion variety based on the environment of the planting site and the planting time;

2. Land preparation: Choose a planting site with sufficient sunlight, rich organic matter in the soil, and close to a water source for easy irrigation. After choosing a planting site, deep plow the soil to a depth of at least 30 centimeters, remove weeds, and dig out a 1-1.5 meter vegetable bed;

3. Planting: Water the planting site thoroughly before planting, then sow the seeds at a row spacing of 30 cm and a distance of 5-8 cm between each seed.
