What is the flower language and legend of lilac?

Flower language: purity, first love, glory

Lilac has the title of flower of heaven, perhaps because of its noble scent, and has been cherished since ancient times. Legend has it that those who are blessed by lilac are protected by the gods. Very smart, but likes to take shortcuts. In the pursuit of ideals, sometimes we forget the original purpose.

The buds of lilac are called clove knots. In his poem "The banana leaves do not unfold, the lilac knots do not open, we both face the spring breeze, but each with its own sorrow", Li Shangyin of the Tang Dynasty used the unopened banana leaves and lilac knots to express his longing for his beloved. Later, many people used the lilac knots as a symbol of sorrow and longing. Of course, as a traditional Chinese flower arrangement, lilac also symbolizes love and the hope of secret love.

legend

Lilac is the flower of love, and there is a touching story about it circulating in ancient times.

In ancient times, there was a young scholar who went to Beijing to take an imperial examination. It was already late, so he stayed in a small shop on the side of the road. The inn was run by a father and daughter. They were very hospitable and the scholar was very grateful for their hospitality, so he stayed in the inn for a few more days. The shop owner's daughter fell in love with the scholar because of his good character and knowledge. The scholar liked the girl very much because she was beautiful, smart and capable. The two swore an oath under the moon, worshiped heaven and earth, and fell in love with each other.

Then the girl wanted to test the scholar and proposed to make a couplet. The scholar thought without hesitation: Ice-cold wine, one point, two points, three points. Just when the girl was about to speak, the shop owner came in and saw the two of them secretly getting married. He was furious. The girl cried and said that they were truly in love and asked her father to grant their marriage, but the shop owner refused. The girl has a strong temper and will kill herself by bumping into someone else's head.

The shop owner buried his daughter on the hillside behind the store according to her wishes. The scholar was heartbroken and could no longer pursue fame and fortune, so he stayed in the store to accompany his father-in-law. The two of them lived in sorrow.

Soon, the girl's grave was covered with lilac trees, and the fragrance was everywhere. The scholar was amazed and went up the mountain to see the lilacs every day. One day, an old man passed by and said, this is the second line of the couplet given to you by the girl, "Ice-cold wine, one, two, three; lilac flowers, a hundred, a thousand, ten thousand."

In order to commemorate this pure and kind girl and respect her noble sentiment of steadfastness in love, later generations regarded lilac as the flower of love. They also called this "marriage couplet" "life and death couplet" and regarded it as a quatrain that has been passed down to this day.
