How to grow a bonsai banyan tree

Bonsai banyan trees prefer good light, warm and humid environment with good ventilation. They are tolerant to partial shade and the soil needs to be kept moist during the growth period. If there is insufficient sunlight, poor ventilation and insufficient air humidity, the leaves of the plant will turn yellow and dry, and may even die.

Banyan bonsai needs to be placed in a warm, sunny, moist and ventilated environment. Water it in time according to the soil conditions. Water it thoroughly when the soil is dry. In summer and autumn, apply decomposed fertilizer water once a month. It is best not to apply fertilizer in winter. In early spring, thin out the branches appropriately and reshape them.

Watering method

Banyan bonsai likes a humid environment. Use your hand to feel the condition of the soil in the pot. Do not water it unless it is dry. If you do water it thoroughly, pay attention to control the amount of water each time. Excessive watering will cause root rot and cause leaves to fall. If the air is dry, you need to spray water to increase the humidity of the air around it.

Fertilization method

Banyan tree is a plant that likes and tolerates fertilizer. During its growth period, decomposed human and animal manure or fermented cake fertilizer can be used as topdressing. When planting or repotting, fermented chicken manure, bean cake, and bone meal can be mixed into the culture soil as base fertilizer.

Pruning methods

Bonsai banyan trees can be topped and budded. During the growth period, the overgrown branches, parallel branches, sick and weak branches, and crossed branches should be cut off. A major pruning should be done in the autumn. The growth is slow in the winter, so no pruning is required at this time.

Precautions for growing bonsai banyan trees

During the maintenance period of bonsai banyan trees, sufficient light and frequent ventilation are needed. If the maintenance environment is dark and unventilated, the banyan tree will experience large-scale leaf drop. When pruning the branches and leaves, white sticky juice will flow out. You can apply wood ash. The pot should be repotted every two years, and a small amount of base fertilizer should be added when repotting.
