What are the cultivation methods and precautions of Guanyin bamboo?

How to grow Guanyin bamboo

Guanyin bamboo likes a warm, humid, airy, semi-shady environment. It is extremely shade-tolerant. If the light intensity is high in summer, it needs shade. It is slightly cold-resistant and can withstand temperatures around 0°C. The suitable growth temperature is between 10-30 degrees, and it is best not to exceed 34 degrees or be lower than 5 degrees. It likes a humid environment with slightly higher air humidity and requires loose, fertile, acidic soil.

Guanyin bamboo is suitable for planting in loose soil, generally mixed with leaf mold and river sand. The seeds need to be germinated before sowing, and then sown when they begin to sprout. The soil should be covered slightly deeper after sowing. Generally, it can germinate 30-60 days after sowing, and the germination rate can reach about 80%. When the cotyledons of the seedlings are up to 10 cm long, they can be transplanted.

Watering method

During the vigorous growth period from May to September, Guanyin bamboo needs to be watered frequently to keep the soil moist. It is better to be wet than dry. If the air is dry, the leaves and the ground should be sprayed with water frequently. In autumn and winter, the plant grows slowly, so the amount of watering should be reduced appropriately.

Fertilization method

Guanyin bamboo is a fertilizer-loving plant. During its vigorous growth period, liquid fertilizer can be applied every 15 days to make the leaves dark green. In winter, the plant enters a dormant period and fertilization should be stopped.

Pruning methods

The dense and leggy branches of Guanyin bamboo need to be removed. Without affecting the overall shape of the plant, you can trim it according to the previous shape or your own preferences to make it look more coordinated. During the growth and mature period, you can trim the old and sick branches.

Things to note when growing Guanyin bamboo

Guanyin bamboo is a plant that is not cold-resistant. In winter, we should keep the indoor temperature above 10 degrees and control the temperature at a moderate level. The light intensity is small at this time and it can accept full-sun maintenance.
