What are the cultivation methods and precautions of Cymbidium orchid?

Cymbidium orchid cultivation method

Cymbidium is a subtropical long-day plant. The suitable growth temperature is between 20-28℃. It is not cold-resistant or heat-resistant, and avoids extreme heat, drought and waterlogging. It is suitable for planting in loose, fertile and well-drained sandy loam.

Cymbidium can be divided when repotting and changing soil in early spring from February to March. Pour the plant out of the pot, remove some of the old soil, and dry it in a shaded place for 1-2 days. Cut the rooted tiller seedlings from the root gap, apply wood ash on the cut, let it dry to form a protective layer, and then plant it in the prepared soil.

Watering method

Cymbidium likes a humid environment and needs to be provided with sufficient water during its growth period. Except for the need to control watering in winter, the soil should be kept moist in other seasons. It cannot tolerate waterlogging, so it is necessary to control the amount of watering and ventilate frequently.

Fertilization method

During the growth period of Cymbidium, water it with thin liquid fertilizer every 15 days. During the flowering period, add diluted superphosphate to the fertilizer liquid to make the flower color more bright. After the flowers wither, cut off the withered flowers in time to reduce nutrient consumption.

Pruning methods

During the growth period of Cymbidium orchid, dense, overgrown, diseased and old branches and leaves can be pruned to reduce nutrient loss. In addition, after the flowering period, the withered flowers need to be pruned to promote the next flowering.

Precautions for Cymbidium cultivation

In summer, Cymbidium orchids should be kept in a well-ventilated place with good scattered light. They should not be placed in direct sunlight. Cymbidium orchids are not cold-resistant and need to be moved indoors for maintenance in winter. Water them less in autumn and winter to avoid frost damage to the roots of Cymbidium orchids. In addition, the potting soil can be changed once every spring.
