Purslane reproduction method

The propagation methods of Purslane include seed propagation, cuttings and grafting. The main natural reproduction method is seed propagation, and cuttings are the fastest.

Purslane breeding time

Purslane is suitable for reproduction in spring and autumn. The best time is April in spring and September in autumn. This is suitable for the plant to take root and sprout, and the survival rate of planting is high.

Purslane breeding method

Portulaca oleracea cutting propagation

Portulaca cuttings can be collected from the seedlings sown that year. The selected mother plant should have many branches and vigorous growth. Each cutting should have 3 to 5 nodes. Prepare loose and moist soil in advance. The cuttings should be buried about 3 cm deep in the soil. After planting, maintain the humidity of the environment and provide appropriate shade. They will survive in a week.

Purslane seed propagation

The seeds of Purslane are very small, so the land needs to be carefully prepared before sowing. After sowing, the soil should be kept moist and maintained in a semi-shaded environment that is not too hot and stuffy. Seedlings will emerge in about 7 to 10 days.

Things to note when breeding purslane

The common pest of Purslane is snail, which can be controlled by spreading fresh lime in the morning. Common diseases include viral disease, powdery mildew and leaf spot. Viral disease can be prevented by spraying sugar and vinegar solution on the leaves, powdery mildew can be controlled by methyl thiophanate and triadimefon, and leaf spot can be controlled by thiophanate-methyl, carbendazim and prochloraz.
