Yew Growth Conditions

Yew prefers a cool and humid growing environment. The best growth temperature is 20-25℃. It is cold-resistant and can withstand temperatures below minus 30℃. It is a negative tree species that likes moisture but is afraid of waterlogging. It is suitable for planting in loose, moist and well-drained sandy loam, requiring a soil pH of 5.5-7.0.

How to grow yew

When growing yew, you should choose acidic soil that is rich in humus, loose, fertile, and well-drained. You should also choose breathable, well-drained flower pots with large drainage holes at the bottom to avoid water accumulation in the pot soil, maintain a certain air humidity, and prevent the air from being too dry.

Watering the yew

In spring and autumn, yew can be watered every 5-7 days, in summer, every 3-5 days, and in winter, the watering frequency can be reduced to once every 7-10 days.

Fertilizing Yew

When growing yew, fertilizers should be applied in time. Organic fertilizers and compound fertilizers can be applied. At the same time, some farmyard manure, cake fertilizer, etc. can be added.

Yew pest control

If the yew tree turns yellow or is infested with pests, use methyl tobacillus or potassium dihydrogen phosphate to irrigate or spray it. Root rot, stem rot and root rot are prone to occur in the rainy season, so use dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane to prevent them. Leaf blight and red blight are prone to occur in the hot and dry season, so use Bordeaux mixture to spray them for prevention and control.

How to grow yew at home

1. When cultivating yew trees at home, loose, slightly acidic soil is generally used. River sand and perlite can be added to enhance drainage capacity. Appropriate light is required during the seedling stage and full light is required after adulthood.

2. Normally, keep the soil in the pot of the yew slightly moist. It should not be completely dry and should not have any water accumulation. You can use farmyard manure when applying fertilizer. For example, the feces of some animals can be used as fertilizer. When sprouting, pinch the young branches slightly to promote the growth of new branches.

Precautions for yew maintenance

In daily maintenance and management, the soil of yew trees should be loosened, weeded, fertilized, and irrigated frequently, and dead branches and leaves should be spread around the roots to keep the soil acidic. Shaping and pruning can be carried out in late autumn and early winter to maintain a good tree posture.
